Gilmore Girls Season 7 saw Christopher finally marry Lorelai more than 20 years after they’d conceived Rory. However, David Sutcliffe, the actor who portrayed Christopher, told Vulture he felt the marriage was doomed from the start:
That was a hard season for me personally to act because I was constantly in a state of discomfort and uncertainty, and ultimately I knew there was no way they were going to get together in the end. It didn’t make any sense to me, right? So I knew that bomb was coming.
And where is Christopher all these years later?
My feeling is with Christopher, there’s still a lot of sadness in him; there will always be a sadness in his heart. I think the relationship that’s unresolved, obviously with Lorelai and particularly with his daughter, there’s just some level of connection that they were never fully able to make, and that’s always going to be painful for him and probably for her, too.
Just like Vanessa Marano found it difficult to play April, who was blamed for so much in the Luke & Lorelai relationship, it must also have been difficult to play Christopher, knowing that you’d never be “end game.” Indeed, David Sutcliffe has gone on record saying he was always #TeamLuke

Although on being hated, perhaps it’s sometimes a little fun?
“It’s the best to be hated,” Sutcliffe gamely mused to me Friday at the world premiere of Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (out Friday). “Being loved is overrated. Being hated is where it’s at. I feel so happy that so many of the fans hate me because it stirs of [their] emotions.”
